Wedding Dresses of No Body
Wedding Dresses of No Body is a series of ceramic wedding-dress sculptures by Guy Hivroni, a ceramic sculptor based in Jerusalem. Each dress is a single, unique piece of stoneware, wheel-thrown and hand-sculpted, and shown without a body — a garment that suggests presence through absence.
A series within Portraits of No Body, exploring identity, memory, and belonging through the symbolic language of ceremonial clothing. Created as bodyless garments, the sculptures suggest presence through absence, inviting viewers to imagine the lives, rituals, and emotions they once held.
The wedding dress, often seen as a symbol of union, expectation, and transformation, becomes a vessel for personal histories and collective memory. Wheel-thrown and hand-sculpted, each piece balances the precision of functional ceramics with the expressive qualities of sculpture, creating forms that exist between object, garment, and memory. Together, the works reflect on what remains when the body is absent, and on the enduring relationship between identity and the traces we leave behind.
