Dressed in Clay: Guy Hivroni at the Jerusalem Theatre
Dressed in Clay, a solo exhibition of ceramic sculptures by Guy Hivroni, was shown in the Sherover Foyer of the Jerusalem Theatre from 1 to 30 September 2025, curated by Dr. Batsheva Ida.

The exhibition
The exhibition presented a series of ceramic sculptures: garments shaped in clay, empty yet deeply present. Dresses, coats and suits stand as silent witnesses to an absent body, preserving echoes of touch, identity, emotion and culture. Through the empty garment and the language of absence, the works explore what is hidden from the eye — what the clothing once covered, protected or held close.
In the words of the Jerusalem Theatre’s exhibition text, Dressed in Clay invites the visitor to a slow, contemplative gaze: to notice the texture of the clay, to read the nuances in its delicate folds, and to listen to the memory folded within the ceramic “fabric”.
How the works are made
Guy Hivroni combines wheel-throwing with precise hand-building. Cylindrical forms thrown on the wheel are transformed into sculpted garments, which are then high-fired as stoneware.
The Cleaner
The theatre’s exhibition page features The Cleaner (2025), a sculpture inspired by domestic uniforms: a long dress with a white apron. Its rough texture against clean lines reveals the tension between labor and propriety — an empty garment that invites reflection on memory, class and quiet dignity.
