Devout

A ceramic sculpture reflecting on the tension between presence and concealment, spirituality and identity. The figure is fully cloaked, with only a narrow opening where the face might be—evoking the niqab, worn by some Muslim women as an expression of faith and modesty.
The form is solemn and self-contained. Its patinated surface suggests ritual and time, while the structured garment points to something deeply personal and intentionally chosen.
As in my other works, the body is absent yet deeply implied. “Devout” invites reflection: What do garments reveal, and what do they shield? Is this a vessel of belief, a silhouette of control, or an assertion of self within boundaries? Through silence and form, the piece becomes a quiet meditation on visibility, faith, and identity."
