Simple Soldier

A ceramic sculpture exploring the image of the ordinary soldier—an anonymous figure within a greater system. Its precise form, with buttons, structured pockets, and a tight belt, conveys uniformity, like attire meant to erase individuality.
The ceramic material adds rigidity and permanence, as if shaping a figure molded by its constraints. The dusty, metallic glaze evokes wear and endurance, resembling a uniform marked by service and time.
As in my other works, the absence of a human figure invites interpretation. Is this the remnant of someone gone, or a symbol of an individual lost within the system? “Simple Soldier” examines identity versus uniformity, the person behind the uniform, and the memory clothing retains even after the body has departed.
